His exclusive recording contract with RCA Victor in 1943 began an association that would last for almost fifty years. He sold around sixty million records in his long career.
Como was born in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, just 20 miles south of Pittsburgh. Although he always liked to sing, his first great ambition was to be the best barber in Canonsburg. After graduation from high school, he opened his own barber’s shop. In 1933, he married his teenage sweetheart, Roselle Belline.

As of December 2005, Madonna had 12 multi-platinum albums certified by the RIAA (US), which, in all, had certified her for shipments of 63 million units in USA. In a 2005 statement, her record label, Warner Bros., said she had sold more than 200 million albums and more than 75 millions singles worldwide.[2].

Unique from its conception, Porcupine Tree was created to satisfy growing interest about the “legendary Porcupine Tree,” the fictional influence claimed in the booklet Wilson distributed with early tapes of his work.
Originating as the punch line of a joke, Porcupine Tree grew into a successful solo project, and then into a full fledged four-piece group. As a result of growing attention, Wilson recruited keyboardist Richard Barbieri, bassist Colin Edwin, and drummer Chris Maitland to play live gigs. Their first album as a four-piece was Signify in 1996. This configuration remained unchanged until 2002, when Chris Maitland was replaced by Gavin Harrison. Beginning in 2002, Porcupine Tree has been joined on tour by John Wesley, providing additional guitar and vocal contributions to the band’s live shows. Steven Wilson himself is the lead vocalist and guitar player for the band.

Birthday: Happy 71st Birthday Elvis
Elvis Aaron Presley would have been 71 years old today .. born on January 8, 1935. Or, ~is~ 71 years old today depending on your point of view I suppose!
My father, AARON Singer was born January 26, 1935 … (18 days later) .. Of course, I discount the theory that my grandparents were clairvoyant and named him after a famous singer and King of Rock & Roll.

The name comes from the bouffant wigs that are a part of the band’s distinctive look, worn by singers Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson. Along with Wilson and Pierson, Keith Strickland, Ricky Wilson (Cindy’s older brother) and Fred Schneider formed the band after a drunken night at a Chinese restaurant. Their sound is particularly marked by the vocals of Wilson and Pierson, with Kate singing in a slightly deeper voice, along with the generally monotone or spoken-word vocals of Schneider. Aside from their vocals, the band also had a unique New Wave sound that was a combination of dance and surf music and the unusual guitar-string tunings utilized by Ricky Wilson. Although part of the new wave movement, their music was more experimental than most new wave, indulging in all manner of odd vocal and synthesizer effects. It created a quirky dance sound that became very popular.

Bartoli is considered a lyric and dramatic coloratura, with perhaps less of a “large voice” than some other mezzos, but with a highly individual timbre which she uses to great vocal and dramatic effect. She is one of the most popular (and one of the top-selling) opera singers of recent years. Bartoli is much liked by the concert-going public for her lively, vivacious onstage persona, while her lyric voice and investigations of other Baroque-era music have given her considerable recognition even among the non-opera-going public.
Bartoli was born in Rome. Her parents were both professional singers and gave her her first music lessons. Her first public performance was at age nine as a shepherd boy in Tosca. Bartoli later studied, appropriately enough, at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia.
